EHS New Hire Safety Orientation
January 2023 – September 2024
Approved by VP of EHS
As the Project Manager, I led the development of the an EHS New Hire Safety Orientation (NHSO) Program, designed as an eight-hour instructor-led training to familiarize new employees with Calpine’s safety culture and Cardinal Rules of Safe Work Operations. The project objective was to create a structured, comprehensive program that effectively reinforced safety principles and workplace expectations. Upon completion, the approved version of the New Hire EHS Safety Orientation Video was successfully delivered for classroom use.
Using the PMBOK framework, I managed the project across all five process groups. In Initiating, I defined the project scope, identified key stakeholders, and developed the project charter to establish alignment with organizational safety objectives. During Planning, I created a detailed project management plan, incorporating scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk management strategies. I collaborated with stakeholders to define content requirements, instructional methodologies, and engagement techniques to optimize knowledge retention.
In Executing, I facilitated coordination between internal Subject Matter Experts, Instructors, and Management to develop accurate and engaging training material. I oversaw power point development, gamified practice examples, and classroom integration to ensure a seamless learning experience. The instructor-led program reinforces critical safety procedures and operational guidelines.
The Monitoring and Controlling phase involved quality assurance reviews, stakeholder validation, and compliance checks against safety standards. I implemented change control processes to refine content based on regional expert feedback and ensured materials captured requirements of the differing areas of the country, specifically, California, and Texas.
During Closing, I finalized the approved content, conducted post-project evaluations, and facilitated its implementation into the classroom training curriculum. Lessons learned were documented to support future instructional program development.

Through structured project management and adherence to PMBOK best practices, I successfully delivered an impactful safety orientation program, enhancing new hire awareness and reinforcing a commitment to workplace safety.
